There are many different types of gutters you could put on your house. Most of them come in your choice of materials too. In the greater Naples Florida Area we certainly don’t have to worry about gutters that can hold snow, so we won’t cover them here.
The most common type of gutter in the Southwest Florida region are open gutters. They come in standard lengths for do it yourself and small contractors. We at KBI can actually manufacturer gutters on site. This means no seams because we don’t have to stick sections together to run the length of your roof. No seams means it last longer and looks better.
There are many materials gutters can be made of:
- aluminum
- steel
- zinc
- vinyl
- copper
The most common material is aluminum because of its great combination of low cost, great looks and durability. Vinyl ones are not used very often. While they are bit lower priced than aluminum, they don’t last nearly as long and don’t look so hot. Then there’s the environmental reasons too but we’ll talk about that some other time perhaps. The other materials are usually just used for looks, as they are expensive but do give a building a unique look.
Gutters also have different shapes, called profiles, that effect the look of your home. The one you are familiar with, is called the K style. They come in 5 inch or 6 inch sizes. If you are having trouble with the gutter overflowing and damaging your roof, you should consider changing them to the larger 6 inch size. That extra inch actually makes a big difference in how much water it can carry away from your house at once. This problem is fairly common in Florida, because of the large amount of rains we get when hurricanes, tropical depressions and even just big rain storms pass through. We do offer even larger sizes for commercial building and very large houses.
